Fun Stuff!

Friday- 2/20/2009
Breoni got all dressed up to go out with her Daddy! The were going to take the tax info to the accountant and to go shopping at Old Navy! Daddy LOVES to go shopping. Breoni "LIKES IT A LOT!" (Imagine Jim Carrey from Dumb and Dumber saying this... Breoni does a great imitation!). They picked out 4 pairs of PJ's, 2 new swimsuits, two pairs of flip-flops, a sweatsuit and 2 shirts!

Saturday- 2/21/2009
Breoni really likes her new swimsuits. She has worn one or the other since she got home yesterday. She also got a wonderful present from "Nana Michelle", bath tub crayons! She has really enjoyed her baths the past few nights! She has colored all over the tub in her swimsuit!
We also went to the park on Saturday since it was such a GEORGOUS day! Breoni had a blast climbing, sliding and swinging! Kyrie went down all the slides! She is fearless! She even enjoyed swinging!
I forgot to take the camera! I really hate it when I do that!

Sunday- 2/22/2009
GAME NIGHT!
We were so excited that Jeff joined us tonight!
TREVOR WON!

She is LEGAL!

December 15, 2008
We finalized Kyrie's adoption!!!
We have to appear before the Judge to legalize Kyrie being a part of our family. It is a pretty interesting process. Our lawyer has documents to present. Then, our caseworker has to verify that we have met the requirements to be 'good' parents. Both Jerry and I are required to answer some questions from both our lawyer and the judge.
It is a very strange (but wonderful) feeling to sit before a Judge and tell him why you feel you are going to be a good parent. How do you explain the love you feel for a child and how she has changed your life? I, of course, get very teary.
It was nice to be able to continue working with Amber and Mr. Murphy, who both were a part of Breoni's finalization and adoption process.
And, no words will ever be enough, to explain the support that "Uncle" Stan provides. Thanks for being there Stan. And, thanks for showing your love in so many ways.
Lastly, I would be amiss not to mention how grateful we are to our birthmother (you are an angel!) and her family for all that they have sacrificed so that we can be a family. We LOVE you!

Michael Murphy (Our Laywer), Jerry, Kyrie, Tara, Amber, Breoni, (Our Caseworker), Uncle Stan

Kyrie was sound asleep until the judge entered the courtroom.
She seemed to sense something important was about to take place.
There were a couple of other adoptions being finalized in addition to ours.
Brenoi and this darling little girl became 'quick' friends while playing in the hall while we were waiting.
Our 'official' family with the Judge.
He was very impressed with both Breoni and Kyrie.

P.S. I will be posting the sealing and blessing soon. I want to get the digital images from my mom before I post the blessing and sealing!

A bit about December....

December 1, 2008
Breoni is just loving Gymnastics. She can tell you that she goes to gymnastics on Mondays. I also have a great time going to gymnastics. Soon Breoni will move into the class for 3 year olds (where mommy can't come with her) and I will start going with Kyrie!

December 5, 2008

Breoni is such a big helper. She wants to do everything I do with Kyrie. She helps with feeding (as you can see here!), holding, dressing, bath time and even diapering.

December 6, 2008
It was a very warm December day so while Kyrie was napping Breoni, Jerry and I went out and played in the hot tub. Breoni calls it her 'warm swimming pool'. She is getting very brave in the hot tub. She can touch bottom every where now and walks all around. She jumps off the sides. She especially loves throwing things into the bubbles and watching them swirl around.

A little info about January here.... since I never took any pictures and didn't realize that I didn't talk about it until just now... We signed Breoni up for swim lessons. Just Breoni and I would go. She was struggling some so Jerry and Kyrie started coming with us. And, Breoni was still a bit scared... which I think is my fault since I took her down the 'big' slide before lessons started when we had just gone over to the Rec. Center to play and the first time we did great. She wanted to go again. The second time we came out of the slide a little side ways and she ended up going underwater. And, her whole outlook on the water changed. So, we are slowly working her back into being confident in the water. Kyrie, on the other hand, loves the water. She looks a little surprised after going underwater but continues on like no big deal. We didn't sign up for the second session of lesson due to my surgery, but will sign up again! We really want the girls to be confident in the water since Lake Powell is a major vacation place for us!

December 10, 2008
Breoni LOVES her books. She 'pretends' to be reading all the time. She has memorized several of the books that we read at bed time. She can 'read' all the pages "I LOVE YOU THROUGH AND THROUGH" and there are several books where if you pause, she will fill in the next word (at least!), sometimes she can fill in a sentence or two! It makes be incredibly happy that she loves her books! Here is a really cute video of her 'pretend' reading in the bath tub.

December 14, 2008
We finally got a snow storm big enough to make a Snow Man. I don't know who was more excited about making him... Jerry or Breoni. (I think Jerry!!!) But, regardless, I think we created a first rate SnowMan!

5 Years of Marriage!

Jerry and I celebrated our 5th Anniversary on Friday! We had a wonderfully relaxing day with the kids and ordered Chili's (one of my favorite restaurants) for take-out! On Saturday, we went to one of Jerry's favorite restaurants, Red Lobster. Jerry really wanted to go snowmobiling, so he will be taking an excursion on Tuesday! I told Jerry I didn't want any presents (he really hates that!) because I just wanted him to watch the girls so I could go use the present he gave me for my birthday...A SPA DAY! I had a wonderfully relaxing massage, facial and pedicure.

THANKS JERRY!

I LOVE YOU!

Angel Gift!

I had a 'surprise' left on my porch today. The sender is 'anonymous'! The note was very nice. I think that there is something so wonderful about having someone share kind words with you... especially when they don't sign their name. It feels like an angel sent you a reminder of who you really are. A reminder that you are divine and deserving of blessings.

ON THE MOVE!

Kyrie loves playing the paino. She is pulling herself up to a kneeling position and even gets to a standing position using the piano as a brace. She is a really strong little girl!
Kyrie started crawling this week! She has been "making the move" towards crawling for weeks. And, she finally decided to go for it! She doesn't go more than a few feet, but once she gets a little more balanced she is going to be all over the place!

Family Fun!

January 16-19, 2009

Jerry and I tend to get a bug to move to Heber every once in a while, especially in the winter when the commutes start getting tough on me. January started out with one of these bugs... we found LOTS of homes that would have been wonderful. We found one we REALLY liked and were starting to make preparations to list our house. We thought for sure, with the market how it is, that the house would be around for a while! WRONG... it sold in a week! The weekend started with us looking at a bunch of homes in Midway and Heber. Consequently, we were a little tardy arriving in Aurora.

On Saturday night we had a blast playing all sorts of games, from cards to Guitar Hero! We were treated to some great Chinese food!

Sunday morning we had a great breakfast. Linda, I and the kids all went to church while Mike and Jerry watched football and talked about hunting and 'guy stuff'. When we got home we prepared dinner (another great meal!) and continued playing games. My mom arrived later that night. Linda, my mom and I stayed up until some unreal hour talking about who knows what and everything under the sun at the same time. Girl Talk!

Monday, we had a quicker breakfast and go ready to go sledding and to enjoy Mike's family property. Thanks Grandma for watching Kyrie! Savannah was really sad that she couldn't go with us! She had dance practice. We hurried home so that we could go catch the last of her practice. She is a great dancer!

We had a wonderful weekend!

P.S. That's all for January! Yipee! Now I just have to do DECEMBER... and I'm hoping to get that long lost ALASKA trip post done also!

January... Snow Fun!

January 3, 2009
Breoni really LOVES being outside in any weather. And, her daddy LOVES buying her stuff at Cabela's! Talk about a kid who is dressed to the hilt... would 'dressed to kill' be to much of a cliche (accent needed but, alas, I don't know how to add that here!).
The binkie fairy is coming in the summer!

Compare these 'little' ponies to the ones for Valentine's Day! Her hair is growing so fast! She hs such great eyes! The color is amazing. My redheaded, green eyed angel!

Last November post...THANKSGIVING weekend!

We had an incredible weekend. The festivities started on Thursday afternoon at Dad Martin's house. Julie prepared a wonderful turkey and we all pitched in with the rest of the meal. The Ashliman's (Jana, Gordon and Derek), the Jones's (Julie, Brandt, Timber and Forrest), Dad Martin and our family had a wonderful time chatting and eating (of course!). Some of the highlights were... the COOL drink dispenser the Ashliman's brought, the 8 layer Jello and Dad Martin's Prayer!

We then headed back to our house for a wonderful dinner with our Family, my Parents, Trevor and LA and fam, Stan and Lisa, Susie, Arlene... the regular crew! Sorry...we were having so much fun cooking and talking that we didn't take any pictures.

Friday was the best day of the weekend... we started with a BREAKFAST for Kings. My mom was doing personal omlett's! We had a little dancing fest, a super fun football game in the street, a bundle of laughs courtesy of Sierra and Savannah who BOTH got in Jerry's snow pants and the evening activity of Ice Skating. Participants were the Sorensen's (Mike, Linda, Savannah, Shawn and Charlee), the Stauffer's (Trevor, LA and Sierra), Martin's (Jerry, Tara, Breoni and Kyrie), the older Stauffer's (Michael and SusanAnn) and Uncle Stan.

Saturday, we had another breakfast (apparently...EATING was a theme!) and more fun and games throughout the day with the whole family!

NO NUTS!

...for Breoni!
November 26, 2008

She is VERY allergic to peanuts! She is also allergic to Cashews and Pistachios! So...we have to have Benadryl and EpiPens wherever we go... Just in Case! We found this out in November and have done really well thus far! She is getting really good. If we tell her it has'nuts', she doesn't even want it anymore. She totally 'knows' that nuts make her feel yucky. We are very lucky that the Child Care Center is already a 'Peanut and Tree Nut Free' facility and that all the teachers are trained to know what to do!

Grow Boards...

January 2, 2009
More 'past' posts...
My #2 New Year's Resolution is: COMPLETE UNFINISHED PROJECTS. The first project to complete is the girls "GROW BOARDS" so we can keep track of how tall they are getting over the years. I got them 'mostly' finished on January 2 and Jerry installed them on the 3rd. I still (ugh!) need to get their names made at "JUST A THOUGHT" and get a few more vinyl decorations to put on them. I was really excited to get these up and going.
Breoni really wanted to join in the painting. So, I let her help with the first few coats. She hadn't gotten enough so Jerry brought in the board that we use to help support the cushions in the boat when you create the 'bed' in the bow. She had a blast painting the board (and herself!).

I sometimes think it is just fun to see the girls in action regardless of how cool the video is. This is one of those...just-how-it-happened videos.

OH OREO!

Kyrie is SO Speedy! She gets her little hands on whatever she sees before you even know it! Breoni left her cookie just a little to close... and... a picture is worth a 1000 words!

More Valentine's Day!

Friday, February 13th

TRUE LOVE
A Daddy and his Girls!
Friday they were celebrating Valentine's at school so we (Grandma, Jerry and I) got them all dressed in Red for the festivities. We had made Valentine's for all the kids and teachers at school. Breoni was really excited because she 'KNEW' she was going to get lots of treats. And, Kyrie is always just so happy! Both the girls came home with 'school' made valentines boxes full for valentines from the other kids and teachers. Breoni was so animated as she talked about all the fun she had.

I have had so much fun putting Breoni's hair up. She actually chooses if she wants 'curls' or 'ponies' now. She is really cooperative while we get her hair done in the mornings!

I am so IN LOVE with both of my beautiful, beautiful daughters. They both bring me so much joy and happiness. I can't think of a single thing in life that represents LOVE more than what my heart feels when I hear either Breoni or Kyrie laugh. My heart melts when Breoni tells me she loves me!

My Dad... even from Hawaii!... knows how to pamper all his girls....
And, yes "DADDY" I do know how you feel...... Thanks for loving me more than words will ever be able to express!

.............To Tara from Dad........... To Breoni & Kyrie from Grandpa

To Grandma from Grandpa!

Valentine's Day!

We had a wonderful evening with Family! We made reservations at TEMPANYAKI in Salt Lake. We had a great time talking, cheering and LOVING! It is so wonderful to have a family that truly knows what it means to love. I feel so incredibly grateful for all the wonderful family that I have been blessed with. It has been so fun to watch our family expand and open arms to more and more people.

SusanAnn, Kristin, Sherrie, Jerry, Tara, Trevor, LynnAnne, Mike, Linda

"The Kids" stayed at home... Savannah did a great job taking care of everyone. She is so capable for a 10-year-old. Breoni just adores all of her cousins and was so happy to be able to spend the evening with Savvy, Shawn and Charlee.

Surgery....

So, I've debated about putting this post up...and I decided that it is important to me for the following reasons:
1) I hope that all the women I love will go to the doctor regularly!
2) I hope by sharing my experience it will help me navigate through the last and final chapter of my infertility story...
3) I hope that sharing my experience will encourage you all to 'know' your body and be your own 'best doctor'!

A bit of History is required...
In 2002, I started having really REALLY heavy periods. I'm talking about a super tampon and a pad being necessary and still having to visit the restroom about every 30 minutes or danger would show it's garnet mark. I went to my OBGYN when things just were getting to be unbearable. She had me do an ultrasound. The results were clear... Fibroids. She told me that we would work on treating the bleeding now that we knew what was causing the bleeding. I spent the weekend researching 'fibroids'. 99% of the time, they are just a nuisance... meaning they cause pain and heavy bleeding, but otherwise are not dangerous. 1% of the time... they can become a pretty scary kind of cancer. She had told me that we were just going to 'treat' the bleeding and pain and that was all at this time. I didn't really like that answer, so I found a new doctor. I had surgery in April 2003. My doctor, who I loved, spend several hours removing fibroids... and lots of other stuff. The pathology report wasn't 'no big deal'. He spoke with me about 'cancer'. Since he knew I really wanted children, we mapped out a plan to do all we could to perserve fertility and my life. The plan included some pretty powerful drugs and two more surgeries. The plan worked. The next two surgeries didn't show any evidence that cancer had developed and I still had my reproductive system. But, I will never forget the fear I carried about developing a type of cancer that is a 'killer'. Nor, will I forget Dr. Bryner telling me that my decision to have the original surgery probably saved my life. He helped me (and Jerry) through all of the steps of the infertility cycle... clomid, insemination, invitro.... miscarriages. Then, the school district changed carriers and I could no longer go to Dr. Bryner. I selected a new doctor closer to home. I kept asking him if 'things were growing back'. He kept telling me that 'everything felt normal'. Well, I knew things were not normal. The pain was getting really bad, worse than before, and the bleeding, while not as intense as before, was increasing. I basically demanded an ultrasound, which proved what I already knew. The fibroids were back. My doctor, again, said we should just treat the pain and bleeding. This time, since I have two beautiful daughters, I decided not to play with fire again and sought out a new doctor. And, luckily, a friend had just researched out the 'best' doctor in the state who does a hysterectomy via laparascopy.

Now to the present....
I contacted the doctor to schedule the procedure. Dr. Arrington is incredible. He is the most personable doctor I have had through this whole adventure/journey. The hope was to take just the uterus due to the fact that it was known that I had at least 7 fibroids which were causing my uterus to be swollen to about a 15 week pregnancy. I also have endometriosis. He could tell in the exam that the endomeitriosis was going to cause additional challenges. He discussed all the options with me, which included having to remove the additional 'parts' of my reproductive system and potentially have to repair other 'non- reproductive system parts' depending on how advanced the endometriosis was.

On Tuesday, Feb. 10, I went in for surgery. Before the surgery, Dr. Arrington met with me and told me after reviewing all my records (which I know he did and did well!) he anticipated that the surgery would take a minimum of 1 hour. My mom and Aunt Susan were going to be waiting for me and he would provide updates to them.

I ended up being in surgery for 4 hours. The endometriosis was taking hold of my whole lower pelvis area. It took him (and his team) a great deal of time to release the necessary organs from the tissue and to remove what was necessary.... the uterus and cervix. Luckily, my ovaries look healthy, so no menopause yet! And, he was able to free my lower intestinal system and remove all the diseased tissue. My mom and Aunt told me he looked very tired when he came out to talk with them about the procedure.

I had originally hoped to go home the same day, but needed to spend the night at the hospital. I was so glad to go home the next day. I was feeling really good until about 5:00pm when I started having a hard time breathing... and turned an interesting shade of blue. My mom called Dr. Arrington and he told me to go to the nearest ER... Jerry took me up! Apparently, when you are under anesthesia for as long as I was... a lot of things 'quit' doing their jobs and there is a high potential for blood clots. Luckily, I didn't have any clots, just lungs that weren't quite back to normal... and they were holding 'gunk'! So, after several hours, a bunch more needle sticks and a CT scan.. I was able to go home. I had a 'breathing toy' and a perscription for antibiotics to insure that I was breathing deeply and don't develop pneumonia (which is also very common after surgery).

Today... I feel incredibly well... all things considered. I have to keep reminding myself that I just had an 'invasive' procedure done becasue I really do feel good. I'm supposed to keep the lifting to less than a milk jug for a few weeks, which is hard with Breoni and Kyrie. My mom and Jerry have been a great help.
The doctor, again, feels that I have done what needed to be done...and potentially saved myself from a much more serious situation.

I am grateful to my husband, Jerry, and Pete for giving me a blessing before the surgery and know that I have been blessed beyond measure. I am grateful to my mom and aunt Susie for all the support they provided at the hospital. I am grateful to Aunt Sherrie for being available to help Jerry with the girls while I was in the hospital. I am grateful to my mom for being able to spend the week helping me and helping with the girls. Jerry did a wonderful job getting the girls to and from school. He was coing a douple commute for 4 days. I am incredibly grateful for all of his efforts this week. I am grateful for a wonderful neighborhood and family that has provided meals for the whole week... thanks Terry, Lori, Jana, Janet, Cyndie, Stan&Lisa.... and to all those who are still going to help during the upcoming week.... THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU! I am grateful for all the flowers I have received...

And, I am grateful for medical advances that have changed this procedure drastically... if you ever have to do this... make sure you go to a doctor who is trained in laparscopic procedures. I am grateful for a doctor who treated me like I was 'his only patient' every time he interacted with me.

I have had to close the door on the hope of being pregnant, but I have seriously reduced my chances of developing cancer and increased my chances for a long, healthy life. I can already tell that I am going to feel much, much better. I have so much to live for... so much to love.

Lastly...
Ladies... go your your annual appointments... be aware of the messages your body is sending you... trust your instincts... ask lots of questions.... advocate for yourself!

Almost done...
